Autism is a developmental disability that causes problems with skills and communication, and can be mild or severe differing from person to person. (Autism. 2013). Autism is from birth, meaning it can t be developed after birth. Symptoms can get better or worse with time, depending on certain dietary plans and medicines. Some autistic symptoms, however, can occur after a traumatic brain injury or TBI. Autism isn t present in a person after such an injury. ASD has many different forms and conditions. Autism isn t just one disease, but an entire spectrum of different abilities, communication problems, symptoms, and challenges. Asperger s syndrome, or AS, is the mildest form of autism. AS is three times more likely to affect boys than girls. (Autism 2013). Children with AS generally find an object or topic and obsess over it, finding out everything they can about it and memorizing it. Often they ll talk nonstop about this topic. Where AS is mild most children are able to communicate slightly but still have some trouble with eye contact and some speech. Torn between the beliefs of the Southern and Northern states that surrounded it, Virginia was in conflict and opposition regarding views to abolish or continue the culture of slavery. Several Northern states had begun the process of ending slavery while the Southern states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia were refusing to do so. The citizens in the state of Virginia had opposing views. Some desired to continue slavery while others wanted to place an end to it. Through the years several laws were made and passed that prohibited anyone from freeing slaves. In 1723 Virginia passed a law that forbid the emancipation of slaves as a slave owners last will and testament. However, there was an exception to this law. It is a synthetic substance, because it is not found in nature, called Olestra(Olean commercially). Other attempts have been made for the perfect fat substitute, from using applesauce in cake batters to prune juice. But never has there been a successful fat-freesubstitute which is actually a fat. This synthesized substance, Olestra, is touted to be theultimate fat. It has the same richness that characterizes fat, and which satisfies our tonguereceptors. Olestra is also heat-resistant, which means that traditionally fatteningfast-foods and junk foods, can be prepared with fat-free oil. The development of Olestra came serendipitously when scientists started toresearch different fat forms for infants in 1959. Infants need high fat diets to begin with,but it was apparent that premature infants had a hard time digesting certain fats soresearch was done in finding a fat which could be more easily digested. Scientists first experimented with the traditional ester model of a fat. Acombination of an alcohol, sorbitol, and fatty acids.
